Apple Pay on Shoporama

How to get Apple Pay in your Shoporama online store. Apple Pay is activated in your payment gateway (QuickPay, PensoPay, Stripe, Nets Easy, or Mollie), not in the Shoporama admin.

Apple Pay lets your customers pay with Face ID or Touch ID on iPhone, iPad and Mac. It's fast, secure and can significantly boost conversion in mobile checkout. In this guide, we explain how to get Apple Pay working in your Shoporama online store.

Important: There is no "Activate Apple Pay" button in the Shoporama admin. Apple Pay is always activated at your payment gateway. When the gateway sends Apple Pay as a payment option, it automatically appears at checkout for customers with compatible Apple devices.

How Apple Pay works with Shoporama

Shoporama forwards the payment to the gateway you selected. The gateway shows the customer a payment window, and if you've enabled Apple Pay at the gateway, it appears as an option alongside cards, MobilePay, and other methods. The customer confirms the payment with Face ID or Touch ID and the order is marked as paid in Shoporama. In other words, you don't need to do anything in the Shoporama administration to offer Apple Pay.

Shoporama gateways that support Apple Pay

  • QuickPay combined with Clearhaus as acquirer
  • PensoPay (same infrastructure as QuickPay)
  • Stripe is activated directly in the Stripe Dashboard
  • Nets Easy via the Nets Easy portal
  • Mollie via Mollie Dashboard

If you use ePay (Bambora/Worldline), OnPay or DIBS, Apple Pay is typically not available as a mobile payment method. If you want to offer Apple Pay, you can switch to one of the gateways above. Read more in our article about accepting payment online.

Activate Apple Pay in QuickPay (with Clearhaus)

  1. Log in to QuickPay Manager
  2. Make sure you have Clearhaus as your acquirer. Apple Pay in QuickPay runs via Clearhaus.
  3. Activate Apple Pay in QuickPay and follow their instructions to verify your domain with Apple. This typically involves putting a small verification file in the root of your online store.
  4. In Shoporama, go to Settings → Payment gateways, open your QuickPay gateway and add apple-pay in the "Payment methods" field (or leave it blank to show all active methods from QuickPay). If you want a separate Apple Pay button in checkout, create an additional QuickPay gateway with apple-pay only.

Note: QuickPay's payment method is hyphenated apple-pay, not applepay. See the full list in our QuickPay guide.

Activate Apple Pay in PensoPay

  1. Log in to app.pensopay.com
  2. Activate Apple Pay and verify your domain following PensoPay's instructions
  3. In Shoporama, go to Settings → Payment gateways, open your PensoPay gateway and add applepay in the "Payment methods" field, or leave it blank to allow all active methods.

Activate Apple Pay in Stripe

  1. Log in to your Stripe Dashboard
  2. Go to "Payment methods" and enable Apple Pay
  3. Stripe handles domain verification when you connect your Shoporama store via Stripe Connect

You can read more about setup in our article about Stripe as a payment gateway.

Activate Apple Pay in Nets Easy

  1. Log in to the Nets Easy portal
  2. Activate Apple Pay under payment methods
  3. Follow Nets' guide to domain verification

Activate Apple Pay in Mollie

  1. Log in to your Mollie Dashboard
  2. Activate Apple Pay under "Payment methods"
  3. Mollie handles domain verification itself

How to check that Apple Pay is working

  1. Open your online store in Safari on an iPhone, iPad or Mac
  2. Add an item to your cart and go to checkout
  3. Select your gateway and look for the Apple Pay button in the payment window
  4. Note: Apple Pay does not appear in Chrome, Firefox or on Android. It is only visible on Apple devices with Safari.

Tip: Apple Pay often significantly increases conversion in mobile checkout because the customer doesn't have to enter the card number, expiration date and CVC. This pays off especially if you have many iPhone users among your customers.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to change anything in the Shoporama admin to show Apple Pay?

No, you don't. Apple Pay will automatically appear at checkout as soon as your gateway sends it as an option. However, check the "Payment methods" field on your gateway in Shoporama. If there is a comma-separated list, include the Apple Pay code(apple-pay in QuickPay, applepay in PensoPay and Mollie), or leave the field blank to show all methods.

Can customers with Android see Apple Pay?

No, they can't. Apple Pay is only available on Apple devices in Safari (iPhone, iPad and Mac). Android customers will typically see Google Pay or MobilePay instead if you have enabled them.

Does it cost extra to offer Apple Pay?

Apple itself doesn't charge the store a fee. You pay the regular card transaction fee to your gateway and acquirer, just like with card payments. If you use Stripe via Shoporama, there is also a platform fee of 0.5% (minimum $1) per transaction.

How do Apple Pay payments look in accounting?

In your accounting system, Apple Pay payments appear as regular card payments from your acquirer (typically Clearhaus, Nets or Stripe). There is no separate settlement flow from Apple, so you don't need to change anything in your chart of accounts.

Why don't I see Apple Pay when I test my own shop?

First, make sure you're testing in Safari on an Apple device. Next, check that Apple Pay is enabled on your gateway, that your domain is verified with Apple, and that the Apple Pay code is not excluded in the "Payment methods" field in Shoporama. Finally, it requires that the device you're testing on has a card added in Apple Wallet.

My gateway is not listed, can I get Apple Pay?

If you use ePay, OnPay or DIBS, you usually can't offer Apple Pay. Switch to QuickPay, PensoPay, Stripe, Nets Easy or Mollie if you want Apple Pay as a payment option.

What do I do if Apple asks for a domain verification file?

Your gateway will send you a small text file to put in the root of your domain under /.well-known/. Write to support if you need help putting the file in place. For Stripe and Mollie, the verification happens automatically without you having to touch anything.

Do I need to do anything special in my theme to show an Apple Pay button?

No, you don't. The Apple Pay button itself appears in the payment window of the gateway, not directly on your product pages. If you want to mark Apple Pay as an accepted payment method in the footer, many Shoporama themes allow you to enable an Apple Pay logo in the theme settings for accepted credit cards. This is purely cosmetic and does not activate the payment method itself.

Where can I find statistics on how many people pay with Apple Pay?

Shoporama displays the payment method on each order. For a complete overview of the Apple Pay share, the best reports are available directly from your gateway (QuickPay Manager, Stripe Dashboard, Mollie Dashboard, etc.), where Apple Pay is broken down as a separate method in the transaction reports.
