Age verification on products
Guide to setting up age verification on products in Shoporama. Set the age requirement to 16 or 18 years and let the payment gateway handle the verification.
If you sell products that require the customer to be over a certain age, you can set age verification on those products. Shoporama automatically sends the age requirement to the payment gateway, which handles the actual verification during checkout.
Setting up
You set age verification on the individual product:
- Go to product editing in the administration
- Find the section Customs, VAT and legal
- Under Require age verification, select:
- None - No age requirement
- 16 years - Customer must be at least 16 years old
- 18 years - Customer must be at least 18 years old
- Save the product
How does it work?
When a customer adds an age-restricted product to the cart and proceeds to checkout, Shoporama automatically sends the age requirement to the payment gateway (e.g. ePay/Bambora). The payment gateway handles the actual age verification as part of the checkout process.
If the order contains multiple products with different age requirements, the highest requirement is used. For example, if one product requires 16 years and another requires 18 years, the age verification will require 18 years.
Order view
In the order list in the administration, a badge with the age requirement (e.g. "18+") is displayed on orders containing age-restricted products. This gives you a quick overview of which orders required age verification.
Please note that
Age verification requires that your payment gateway supports it. The feature works with ePay/Bambora. Contact your payment provider to make sure age verification is enabled on your agreement.
