Brevo integration newsletter signup integration from your webshop
How to connect your Shoporama webshop to Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) so that new newsletter subscriptions automatically land in Brevo. Read what the integration can do and what you need to set up in Brevo yourself.
Shoporama can be connected directly to Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) so that new newsletter subscriptions from your webshop automatically end up in Brevo as contacts. You can then send newsletters, promotions and automated emails from Brevo and the data tasks are shared between Shoporama and Brevo.
Important to know: The integration only synchronizes the contact information email, first name and last name to Brevo. It does not sync orders, purchase history, phone numbers, addresses or product data. If you need order synchronization, segmentation on purchases or automated flows based on purchases, then Klaviyo or HeyLoyalty are better alternatives.
What does Shoporama send to Brevo?
When a customer signs up for your newsletter through the online store, Shoporama sends this information to Brevo:
- Email address
- FIRSTNAME contact's first name
- LASTNAME last name of the contact
The contact is added to the Brevo list you choose in the setup. Additional contact data, such as phone numbers, addresses or birthdays, can be added directly in Brevo by the customer or by you.
How to set up the integration
- Create an account with Brevo if you don't already have one
- In Brevo, create a list for your new newsletter subscribers
- Get your API key from Brevo under SMTP & API → API keys
- Go to Marketing → Newsletter → Settings in Shoporama
- Select Brevo as your mailing list provider
- Paste the API key and select the list you want to add new subscriptions to
- Save the settings
Double opt-in (recommended)
To ensure good data quality and GDPR compliance, you can enable double opt-in. The customer will receive a confirmation email from Brevo and will only be added to the list after the click. How to set it up:
- In Brevo, create an email template for the opt-in confirmation and tag it optin
- Back in Shoporama, check Enable double opt-in
- Select the created template
- Write a redirection URL that the customer is sent to after confirmation (typically your front page or a "thank you" page)
What happens in Brevo afterwards?
Once the contact is in Brevo, you can
- Send newsletters and campaigns
- Build automated flows (welcome series, birthday emails, etc.) based on data found in Brevo
- Build segments based on the attributes in Brevo, e.g. first name, city, category you have set for the contact
- Import additional data manually or via Brevo's API
Since Shoporama does not send order data to Brevo, you cannot automatically segment contacts based on e.g. "bought more than $1000", "bought in category X" or "haven't bought in 90 days". This requires you to enrich the contact information yourself via a CSV export from Shoporama or via Brevo's API.
Want more than basic sync?
If you want full order and purchase synchronization, automated mailflows based on actual purchases, abandoned cart emails and advanced segmentation, we recommend one of these solutions instead:
- Klaviyo deep integration with orders, categories, products and purchase history
- HeyLoyalty Danish platform with good order sync and loyalty features
- Shoporama's own newsletter system built into the administration, no external integration needed
Export orders manually to Brevo
If you still want to use Brevo and include order data, you can regularly export customers from Shoporama (e.g. customers who have purchased a specific product) as CSV and import them into Brevo as a new attribute. It's manual work, but you get a reasonable starting point for segmentation.
Frequently asked questions
Does the integration sync my orders to Brevo?
No, it doesn't. Only email, first name and last name are synchronized when the customer signs up for the newsletter. Orders, amounts, products and purchase history are not sent. If you want to segment on purchases, use Klaviyo or HeyLoyalty.
Are customers automatically subscribed to the newsletter when they shop?
Only if you enable it yourself in the newsletter module settings and the customer checks the opt-in checkbox at checkout. GDPR requires active consent, so it's never automatic without customer choice.
Can I send my newsletter from Shoporama but have the contacts in Brevo?
You can use Shoporama's built-in newsletter system independently or use Brevo. It often makes more sense to choose one of the two rather than having parallel systems.
What happens if the customer unsubscribes in Brevo?
Unsubscribing in Brevo is handled in Brevo. Shoporama is not automatically updated about the unsubscription. If the customer later tries to sign up again via the webshop, Brevo will honor the unsubscribe status and not add them to the list.
Where do I find my Brevo API key?
Log in to Brevo and go to My name (top) → SMTP & API → API keys. Click Generate a new API key if you don't have one. Copy the key and paste it into Shoporama.
Will I lose my current contacts if I switch from Mailchimp/Heysender to Brevo?
No, but you will need to export from the old system and import into Brevo yourself. Shoporama only transfers new sign-ups from the moment the integration is activated.
Does the customer have to confirm their enrollment?
This is optional. With double opt-in, the customer must confirm via email before signing up, which provides the highest data quality and is recommended in relation to GDPR. GDPR. Without double opt-in, they are signed up immediately.
What does Brevo cost?
Brevo has a free plan with up to 300 emails per day and paid plans from around €25/month. See current prices at Brevo.
