Create EAN payment as a payment method
Guide to setting up EAN payment (invoice payment for businesses) on your Shoporama online store.
EAN (European Article Number) is an electronic payment method primarily used by public institutions in Denmark. With EAN payment, you basically sell on invoice - the institution provides its 13-digit EAN number and you send an EAN invoice via your financial system.
Create EAN as a payment method
- Click on Settings (cogwheel)
- Click on the Payment gateways tab
- Click on "Create new payment gateway"
- Enter "EAN payment" as the name
- Select "Other" in the dropdown by type
- Click Save
Tip: Tip
If you want EAN orders to be automatically marked as paid, you can check "Automatically mark new orders as paid?" and click Save.
Add EAN field in checkout
For customers to enter their EAN number at checkout, your theme needs an EAN field. Ask your developer to add the field in the checkout template. Here are some recommendations:
- Validation: The field should validate that exactly 13 digits are entered (with HTML or JavaScript)
- Conditional display: Consider hiding the EAN field unless the customer has selected EAN as the payment method - this prevents confusion
- Help text: Add a message explaining that EAN is only used for public procurement
How it works in practice
The flow of an EAN order typically looks like this:
- The customer (a public institution) selects EAN as the payment method
- The customer enters their 13-digit EAN number
- The order is created in Shoporama
- You create an EAN invoice in your financial system (e.g. E-conomic or Dinero)
- The institution pays the invoice
