Set up a split test in Shoporama
Detailed guide to setting up a split test in Shoporama with step-by-step instructions.
Split testing (also known as A/B testing) allows you to test two variants of a page to find out which one converts best. In Shoporama, you can set up split tests directly in the admin and let them run until you have enough data to choose a winner.
To set up a split test
- Click on Settings (the gear)
- Click on the three dots and select Themes
- Click "Create new theme"
- Give your theme a name (e.g. "Add to cart test")
- Enter the number of orders after which the test should be locked (e.g. 500)
- Scroll down and select the file you want to split test
- Click Create
Create your variants
- You now have a copy of your file - give it a name like "Control" or "Original"
- Click Save
- Select the file and choose "Copy the selected templates"
- Click the pencil next to the new copy
- Name it (e.g. "Variant B") and make the changes you want to test
- Click Save
Important note
You need to disable caching when running a split test. Otherwise, you risk that all visitors will see the same variant and the test will be invalid.
Run and evaluate the test
Once your variants are created, Shoporama automatically distributes traffic equally between them. You can follow the results in the admin:
- Conversion rate for each variant
- Number of visitors who viewed each variant
- Number of orders from each variant
Lock the test
When you have enough data (we recommend at least 500 orders in total), you can "lock" the test. Only the winning variant will then be shown to all visitors.
If you set a number of orders at creation, the test will automatically lock when this number is reached.
