Partner Ads setup step by step

Detailed guide to setting up Partner Ads in Shoporama: feed, tracking, program type, country, API key and auto cancel on return.

Reading time: approx. {eight} minutes
Shopejer

This guide takes you through the entire Partner Ads setup in Shoporama, field by field. You'll get both product feed and tracking enabled correctly, followed by automatic cancellation on returns and tiered commission rates per brand. If you are completely new to Partner Ads, start with Set up Partner Ads in Shoporama: get started for an overview.

Where do I find the settings?

All Partner Ads fields are grouped under Account → Online Shop → General in the left sidebar. On this page you will find the map with the heading "Feeds". Inside the map there are a number of sections (Google Shopping, Pricerunner, Klaviyo etc.). Scroll down to the "Partner Ads" section. This is where all the setup happens.

Note: Previously, the Partner Ads settings were under a separate menu item "Feeds". This has now been removed and all fields are now on the Webshop page. You can find your own custom product feeds under Products → Product feeds.

Prerequisites

  1. An approved advertiser account with Partner Ads
  2. Your program ID from Partner Ads (make a note of it)
  3. Decide which program type your agreement covers (Sales or Lead)
  4. Access to your Shoporama admin with rights to edit online store settings

Step 1: Activate the product feed

The product feed is the XML file that Partner Ads pulls your items from. Follow these steps:

  1. Check the "Enable Partner Ads feed" checkbox.
  2. Enter your program ID (or affiliate ID) in the "Any Partner Ads ID" field.
  3. Click Save at the bottom of the page.

When the feed is saved, the feed URL will appear just below the field, e.g. https://dinshop.dk/partner-ads.xml. You need to give this URL to Partner Ads so they can retrieve your items.

Important: The feed is not automatically activated because you have entered a program ID. You need to explicitly check "Activate Partner Ads feed" and save. Without a checkmark, the feed is inactive and the URL will not return any products.

Step 2: Activate tracking

Tracking registers that a customer came from a partner and made a purchase. It is activated separately from the feed:

  1. Check the "Enable Partner-Ads tracking" checkbox.
  2. Fill in the "Partner-ads program ID" field with your program ID.
  3. Select Program type: either Sales (commission per order) or Lead (commission per registered contact). Must match your agreement with Partner Ads.
  4. Select Partner Ads country: Denmark, Sweden or Norway. Select the country that matches your Partner Ads account.
  5. Click Save.

Tracking sets a cookie with the customer when they visit your shop from an affiliate site. The cookie lives for 40 days and contains the affiliate ID and the customer's IP address. When the customer completes an order during that period, Shoporama automatically sends the order number and price to Partner Ads.

Step 3: Add API key and auto-cancel (optional)

If customers return or cancel orders, you usually want the commission reversed as well. This happens automatically if you add your Partner Ads API key and check the relevant checkboxes:

  1. Log in to your Partner Ads account.
  2. Go to "Data Extraction / API" on the left side.
  3. Find the text "Your unique key is" and copy the key.
  4. Back in Shoporama (same section), paste the key in the "Partner Ads key" field.
  5. Check "Cancel automatically canceled orders in Partner-ads" to reverse manual cancellation.
  6. Check "Cancel automatically returned orders in Partner-ads" to reverse on return.
  7. Click Save.

Step 4: Differentiated rate groups (optional)

If you want to give different commission rates per brand (e.g. 8% on one brand and 12% on another), you can enable rate groups:

  1. Check "Use differentiated rate groups".
  2. Set a default rate in the "Default rate group" field. This is used when a brand does not have its own rate.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Then go to Products → Brands and set a specific rate group per brand where applicable.

Overview of all fields

  • Activate Partner Ads feed: turns on the product feed.
  • Partner Ads ID if applicable: your Partner Ads ID/affiliate ID associated with the feed (typically identical to the program ID).
  • Enable Partner Ads tracking: turns on sales/lead tracking.
  • Partner-ads program ID: your program ID used by the tracking.
  • Partner-ads key: API key to send back cancellations.
  • Program type: sales or lead.
  • Partner-ads country: uk, se or no.
  • Automatically cancel canceled orders: automatically reverses commission when an order is canceled.
  • Automatically cancel returned orders: reverses commission automatically on returns.
  • Use tiered rate groups: enables different rates per brand.
  • Default rate group: default rate for brands without their own rate.

Verify the setup

  1. Test the feed: open the URL (e.g. https://dinshop. dk/partner-ads.xml) in a browser. You should see XML with your products.
  2. Test the tracking: create a test link in the Partner Ads portal, click on it, complete a test order and check if the sale shows up in your Partner Ads account within a few minutes.
  3. Check color and size: if your items come in variants, see Include color and size in the Partner Ads feed.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find the Partner Ads settings in the new admin?

Go to Account → Online Shop → General in the left sidebar and scroll down to the "Feeds" card. The "Partner Ads" section contains all the fields you need. Previously there was a separate menu item "Feeds", but it is now gathered on the Webshop page.

Is the feed activated automatically when I enter my Program ID?

No, it won't. You need to explicitly check the "Activate Partner Ads feed" checkbox before the feed is active. The same goes for tracking, which has its own separate checkbox. This is the most common mistake during setup.

What is the difference between "Possible Partner Ads ID" and "Partner Ads Program ID"?

For most eCommerce stores, it's the same number. The "Possible partner Ads ID" relates to the feed, while the "Partner-ads program ID" is used by tracking. In special setups with multiple programs they may be different, but otherwise you fill in both with your program ID.

Should I choose Sales or Lead?

Almost all online shops choose Sales because the partner gets commission per completed order. Lead is only used if your agreement with Partner Ads is based on, for example, a completed contact form or a creation, not an actual sale. Check what it says in your agreement.

Which countries can I choose?

Shoporama supports Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Select the country that matches your Partner Ads account. If you sell to multiple countries, Partner Ads typically run per country and you can only link one account per online store.

What happens on a return if I haven't entered the API key?

The commission is not automatically withdrawn by Partner Ads. You have to log in and cancel the order manually. With the API key and the "Automatically cancel" checkboxes, Shoporama will trigger it automatically when an order is canceled or returned in admin.

How long after a click is a sale recorded?

The tracking cookie is set for 40 days. If the customer returns and buys within the 40 days, the partner is credited. After 40 days, the track expires and the sale is not attributed to the affiliate.

How to use the Default rate group field?

When you have enabled differentiated rate groups, the Default rate group is used as the default rate for all brands that do not have a specific rate set under Products → Brands. This means you can get a working set-up without setting rates for every single brand from the start.

What about GDPR and cookies?

The Partner Ads cookie contains personally identifiable data (IP address) and requires consent. Make sure your cookie solution is set up to include it. See Cookie consent and Consent Mode v2.
