Backup your shop
Guide to backing up your Shoporama online store - products, categories, themes and data.
Shoporama automatically backs up your shop every 24 hours. However, this backup is only for emergencies and cannot be requested for daily use. Fortunately, you can easily make your own backup of the most important data.
What Shoporama backs up
Shoporama backs up your entire shop daily - database, files, and settings. This backup is a precautionary measure against server crashes, data loss or other serious incidents. It is not intended for you to "roll back" individual changes.
Please note
The automatic backup is for disaster situations. If you need regular access to your data, you should make your own backup as described below.
Back up your products
You can export all your products as a CSV file directly from the admin:
- Go to Products in admin
- Click Export
- Select the fields you want to export (all fields are recommended for backup)
- Download the CSV file and save it locally
The CSV file contains product name, price, description, image URLs, item numbers, stock status, extra fields and more. You can re-import the file to restore your products.
Backup your categories
Categories can also be exported from the admin. Go to Categories and use the export function to get an overview of your entire category structure.
Back up your customers
Under Customers in admin you can export your customer list. This file contains contact details and any customer groups, but not passwords (for security reasons).
Backup your theme via SFTP
Your theme's files (HTML templates, CSS, JavaScript and images) can be retrieved via SFTP. Create an SFTP connection to your shop and download the entire theme folder. See our guide on SFTP access for setup help.
Back up your orders
Orders can be exported from the order list in admin. Select the desired time range and export as CSV. Remember to also save orders in your accounting system for extra security.
What can't you back up yourself?
There are a few things you can't export directly:
- Landing pages and static pages - These are in the system and cannot be exported directly
- Menu structures - Menus need to be rebuilt manually in case of a restore
- Settings - Shop settings, shipping methods and payment setup
Should the worst happen, we always have our automatic backup to fall back on for these elements.
Tip to keep in mind
Set a regular backup routine - e.g. every month. Save the files in a folder with a date so you can always find the latest version. Also consider storing backups on an external service like Google Drive or Dropbox.
