Image name in the URL
Guide to getting the product image name in the URL for better SEO.
When you upload an image in Shoporama, it is automatically renamed to a numeric ID. If for SEO reasons you want the image file name to reflect the product name, you can do so via the image description.
Here's how to do this
- Go to Products and click Edit on the product
- Scroll down to the images
- Fill in the "Description" (caption) field below each image
- Click Save
What happens next?
The description is automatically converted to an SEO-friendly URL prefix:
- Letters are made lowercase
- Spaces are replaced with hyphens
- Danish characters are converted (æ → ae, ø → oe, å → aa)
- Special characters are removed
Example: The description Red leather jacket gives the URL:
/cache/.../red-leather-jacket-fit-500x500x85.png
Tip.
The image still keeps its numeric ID internally - the description is simply added as a prefix in the URL. So you're not breaking anything by adding or changing the description.
