Setting up the front page
Lær hvordan du sætter forsiden op i din Shoporama-webshop. Forsiden er en kategori, som du kan tilpasse med Sidedesigner i understøttede temaer.
Front page is a category
In Shoporama, the front page is not a separate page. It's a regular product category with a special flag. This means that everything you can do with a category (add products, images, descriptions and subcategories), you can also do with the front page.
When a category is flagged as a front page, it will appear at your online shop's root address (e.g. dinshop.dk/) instead of under its category name.
Select front page category
You choose which category should be the front page in the online shop settings:
- Go to Settings in the left menu
- Find the Front page category field
- Select the category you want as the front page in the dropdown menu
- Click Save
When you create a new online shop, a category called "Front page" is automatically created and set as the front page. You can rename it or select a different category.
In the category list, you can see which category is the front page. It is marked with a blue Front page badge.
Add products to the front page
Since the front page is a category, you add products to it in the same way as any other category:
- Go to Products and open the product you want to show on the front page
- Under Categories, select the front page category
- Save the product
The products will then appear on the front page in the order your theme determines (typically by weight or sorting).
Page designer, build the front page visually
If your theme supports Page Designer (also called Page Setup), you can build the front page visually with sections instead of just showing a product list. Page Designer allows you to compose the front page from different blocks such as hero banners, product carousels, category lists, text and much more.
How to use Page Designer on the front page:
- Go to Categories and find your front page category
- Click Page setup (the link will only appear if your theme supports Page Designer)
- Add sections by selecting from the list of available block types
- Configure each section with images, text, products, etc.
- Drag the sections in the order you want
- Save your changes
If you haven't set up Page Designer for the front page, the theme will automatically display a default layout (typically a product list from the front page category).
Background video in the hero banner
You can give the hero banner on the front page a live background video instead of a still image. This gives a professional first impression. This feature is available in themes that have a video field on the hero section, such as Montana. Delaware also has a dedicated "Hero with video and categories" section.
How to add a background video:
- Open the front page Page setup and edit the hero section
- In the Background video field, click Upload video to upload an MP4 or WebM file, or Select video to reuse a video you've already uploaded
- Select an image in the same section. This will be used as the poster, the still image that appears while the video loads
- Click Save
The video plays automatically, silently and in a loop on all devices, including mobile. Tip: use a short loop of 5-15 seconds, preferably under 5 MB, in MP4 format. The video is saved in full quality without compression, so please compress it before uploading.

- Adding and sorting products in the front page category
- Editing the category name, description and image
- Using Custom CSS to customize the look
Tips for the front page
- Keep it simple, avoid too many sections. Focus on the most important products and categories
- Use the hero banner, a nice hero image with a clear call-to-action makes a good first impression
- Show popular products, use a product list or carousel to highlight bestsellers
- Add category navigation, a category list helps customers find their way around
- Trustpilot/USPs, show trust and benefits early to increase conversion rates
- Test on mobile, make sure the homepage looks good on all devices
Frequently asked questions
Can I have multiple front pages?
No, there can only be one front page category per online shop. However, you can change the front page category at any time in the online shop settings.
Can the front page be a subcategory?
Technically, there is no requirement for the front page category to be a root category. In practice, however, you should choose a root category as the front page is the first thing customers see and it provides the cleanest setup. If you choose a subcategory, it will still function as the front page, but any breadcrumb paths and menu structures in the theme may behave unexpectedly.
What happens if I change the front page category?
The new category takes over the front page immediately. The old category becomes a regular category with its own URL.
Does my theme support Page Designer?
Go to a category and see if the "Page setup" link appears. If it does, your theme supports Page Designer.
