Setting up the front page
Lær hvordan du sætter forsiden op i din Shoporama-webshop. Forsiden er en kategori, som du kan tilpasse med Sidedesigner i understøttede temaer.
The homepage is a category
In Shoporama, the homepage is not a separate page. It is a regular product category with a special flag. This means that everything you can do with a category (add products, images, descriptions, and subcategories), you can also do with the homepage.
When a category is marked as the homepage, it appears at your online store’s root URL (e.g., dinshop.dk/) instead of under its category name.
Select the homepage category
You select which category should be the homepage under the online store settings:
- Go to “Webshop” in the left-hand menu
- Find the " Front Page Category" field
- Select the category you want as the homepage from the dropdown menu
- Click Save
When you create a new online store, a category called "Front Page" is automatically created and set as the front page. You can rename it or select a different category.
In the category list, you can see which category is the homepage. It is marked with a blue " Homepage" badge.
Add products to the front page
Since the front page is a category, you add products to it the same way you would to any other category:
- Go to Products and open the product you want to display on the homepage
- Under " Categories," select the "Front Page" category
- Save the product
The products will then appear on the front page in the order determined by your theme (typically by weight or sorting).
Page Builder: Build the homepage visually
If your theme supports Page Builder (also called Page Layout), you can build the homepage visually using sections instead of simply displaying a product list. Page Designer lets you compose the front page using various blocks such as hero banners, product carousels, category lists, text, and much more.

Here’s how to use the Page Designer on the homepage:
- Go to Categories and find your homepage category
- Click Page Setup (the link appears only if your theme supports the Page Builder)
- Add sections by selecting from the list of available block types
- Configure each section with images, text, products, etc.
- Drag the sections into the order you want
- Save your changes
If you haven’t set up Page Builder for the homepage, the theme will automatically display a default layout (typically a product list from the homepage category).
Background video in the hero banner
You can give the hero banner on the homepage a dynamic background video instead of a still image. This creates a professional first impression. This feature is available in themes that have a video field in the hero section, such as Montana. Delaware also has a dedicated “Hero with Video and Categories” section.
Here’s how to add a background video:
- Open the homepage’s Page Setup and edit the hero section
- In the Background Video field, click “Upload Video” to upload an MP4 or WebM file, or click “Select Video ” to reuse a video you’ve already uploaded
- Select an image in the same section. This will be used as the poster image—the still image that appears while the video is loading
- Click Save
The video plays automatically, silently, and on a loop on all devices, including mobile. Tip: Use a short loop of 5–15 seconds, preferably under 5 MB, in MP4 format. The video is saved in full quality without compression, so feel free to compress it before uploading.

Alaska2

Themes without Page Builder
Older themes (such as the original Alaska and Massachusetts) do not support Page Builder. On these themes, the homepage automatically displays products from the homepage category in the theme’s default layout. You can still customize the homepage by:
- Adding and sorting products in the homepage category
- Editing the category’s name, description, and image
- Using Custom CSS to customize the appearance
Tips for the homepage
- Keep it simple; avoid too many sections. Focus on the most important products and categories
- Use the hero banner—a striking hero image with a clear call-to-action makes a great first impression
- Show popular products; use a product list or carousel to highlight bestsellers
- Add category navigation; a category list helps customers find their way around
- Trustpilot/USPs: Showcase trust and benefits early on to increase the conversion rate
- Test on mobile—make sure the homepage looks good on all devices
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I have multiple homepages?
No, there can only be one front page category per online store. However, you can change the front page category at any time in the online store settings.
Can the homepage be a subcategory?
Technically, there’s no requirement that the homepage category be a root category. In practice, however, you should choose a root category, since the homepage is the first thing customers see, and it provides the cleanest setup. If you choose a subcategory, it will still function as the homepage, but any breadcrumb trails and menu structures in the theme may behave unexpectedly.
What happens if I change the front page category?
The new category takes over as the front page immediately. The old category becomes a regular category with its own URL.
Does my theme support Page Builder?
Go to a category and see if the “Page Setup” link appears. If it does, your theme supports Page Builder.
