Setting up the front page

Learn how to set up the front page in your Shoporama online store. The front page is a category that you can customize with Page Builder in supported themes.

The front page is a category

In Shoporama, the front page isn't a separate page - it's a regular product category with a special flag. This means that everything you can do with a category (add products, images, descriptions and subcategories), you can also do with the front page.

When a category is flagged as a front page, it will appear at your online shop's root address (e.g. dinshop.dk/) instead of under its category name.

Select front page category

You choose which category should be the front page in the online shop settings:

  1. Go to Settings in the left menu
  2. Find the Front page category field
  3. Select the category you want as the front page in the dropdown menu
  4. Click Save

When you create a new online shop, a category called "Front page" is automatically created and set as the front page. You can rename it or select a different category.

In the category list, you can see which category is the front page - it is marked with a blue Front page badge.

Add products to the front page

Since the front page is a category, you add products to it in the same way as any other category:

  1. Go to Products and open the product you want to show on the front page
  2. Under Categories, select the front page category
  3. Save the product

The products will then appear on the front page in the order your theme determines (typically by weight/sorting).

Page Builder - build the front page visually

If your theme supports Page Builder (also called Page Setup), you can build the front page visually with sections instead of just showing a product list. Page Builder allows you to put together the front page from different blocks like hero banners, product carousels, category lists, text and much more.

How to use Page Builder on the front page:

  1. Go to Categories and find your front page category
  2. Click Page setup (the link only appears if your theme supports Page Builder)
  3. Add sections by selecting from the list of available block types
  4. Configure each section with images, text, products, etc.
  5. Drag the sections in the order you want
  6. Save your changes

If you haven't set up Page Builder for the front page, the theme automatically displays a default layout (typically a product list from the front page category).

Themes with Page Builder support

Not all themes support Page Builder. Here is an overview of the themes that have Page Builder for the front page:

Delaware / DelawareDK

The most advanced theme with the most section types. Supports e.g.:

  • Hero - large banner with image, headline and call-to-action button
  • Hero with video and categories - video banner with category navigation
  • Product list - show selected products in a grid
  • Product carousel - horizontal scroll of products
  • Product feature - highlight a single product with large image
  • Category list - show subcategories with images
  • Category slider - horizontal scroll of categories
  • Banner - image banner with link

California

  • Category slider - horizontal scroll of categories
  • Products - product grid, slider and featured products
  • Promo images - promotional banners with countdown
  • Testimonials - customer reviews
  • FAQ - frequently asked questions
  • Brands - logo carousel of brands

Alaska2

Minimalist theme with basic Page Builder support. Has fewer section types and is suitable for simple webshops that don't need advanced layouts.

Themes without Page Builder

Older themes (e.g. the original Alaska and Massachusetts) do not support Page Builder. On these themes, the front page automatically displays the products from the front page category in the theme's default layout. You can still customize the front page by

  • Adding and sorting products in the front page category
  • Editing the category name, description and image
  • Using Custom CSS to customize the look

Tips for the front page

  • Keep it simple - avoid too many sections. Focus on the most important products and categories
  • Use the hero banner - a great hero image with a clear call-to-action makes a great first impression
  • Show popular products - use a product list or carousel to highlight bestsellers
  • Add category navigation - a category list helps customers find their way around
  • Trustpilot/USPs - show trust and benefits early to increase conversion rates
  • Test on mobile - make sure the homepage looks good on all devices

Frequently asked questions

Can I have multiple front pages?
No, there can only be one front page category per online shop. However, you can change the front page category at any time in the online shop settings.

Can the front page be a subcategory?
No, the front page category must always be a root category (top level). It cannot be placed under another category.

What happens if I change the front page category?
The new category takes over the front page immediately. The old category becomes a regular category with its own URL.

Does my theme support Page Builder?
Go to a category and see if the "Page setup" link appears. If it does, your theme supports Page Builder.
