Shared Values

Shared values are attribute values—such as Small, Medium, and Large—that multiple product profiles use as the same value. This allows customers to filter across product types, so that "Medium" displays both T-shirts and pants.

What does “shared values” mean?

In an online store, products have attributes such as size, color, or material. When different types of products share the same attribute—for example, sizes for both T-shirts and pants—it’s helpful for the system to recognize that “Medium” in one place is the same as “Medium” in another. Otherwise, they’re treated as two different values, and the customer can’t find everything in their size all at once. A shared value is exactly that—a common value used by multiple product types.

Here’s how it works in Shoporama

In Shoporama, each product profile has its own attributes and values. Shared values are a common list for the entire store, which you can find via the Shared Values button under Webstore → Product Profiles. When you type in the Values field on a profile, your shared values are suggested, and if you select one, the profile’s value is linked to it. Shared values appear in purple with a link icon in the profile.

  • The link does not affect inventory, variants, prices, or orders, and it can always be removed.
  • If you rename a shared value, all linked profiles will be given the new name. Orders retain the name from the time of purchase.
  • In the product filter in Montana and MontanaB2B, a shared value appears as a single option with items from all the profiles that use it.
  • Values that are similar but have different meanings should be created as two shared values, e.g., “M” and “M (children).”
