Webshop with cash register

Combine webshop with cash register at Shoporama. Web-based POS, shared inventory, barcode scanning and automatic synchronization with your online store.

Read more about it

If you sell both online and physically, a webshop with a cash register is the simplest way to have one inventory and one customer base. Shoporama's web-based POS lets you sell from mobile, tablet or desktop with barcode scanning, shared product catalog with your online store and receipt printing in the browser. How it works and what it's best for.

Online shop and cash register with shared inventory

If you sell both online and physically, the classic challenge is: how do you keep the stock correct between the two channels? A third-party cash register typically requires a separate integration to your online store, and even then synchronization can lag. A webshop with a Shoporama cash register completely eliminates that problem: the inventory is one database, so sales from the POS update the webshop instantly and vice versa.

Shoporama's POS is web-based. You log in to a browser on a tablet, mobile or desktop and you have the same product catalog and inventory as your webshop. It works well for pop-up shops, market stalls, showrooms and smaller physical stores where primary operations are done online.

How the POS works

The POS is built on top of Shoporama's existing API and uses your admin account to authenticate.

  1. You open a browser on your device (iPad, mobile, desktop) and log in
  2. Search for a product by name or scan a barcode
  3. Add the product to the basket with the selected quantity
  4. Repeat until the entire purchase is registered
  5. You click Finish and the order is created in Shoporama immediately
  6. Inventory is automatically updated and the receipt opens in a print-ready modal

The payment itself is handled separately (e.g. via a mobile card reader like SumUp or iZettle) and you mark the order as paid in the POS when the card payment is complete.

What do you get as a store owner?

  • Shared inventory with the webshop. If an item is sold in the store, the online shop is updated immediately. If an item is sold on the webshop, the store can no longer sell it. No double posting, no oversold items.
  • Shared product catalog. You create products in one place (Shoporama admin) and use them both online and in-store. Price changes are instantly reflected everywhere.
  • Barcode scanning. The POS supports USB and Bluetooth barcode scanners. Scan a barcode and the product is added directly to the basket.
  • Receipts by email or print. Receipts can be printed in the browser or sent as an order confirmation via email.
  • Customer linking. You can link an order to an existing customer in Shoporama so that sales history is collected in one place and loyalty points can be used.
  • No software installation. The POS runs in a browser. No need to install apps, drivers or software.
  • Same statistics as the webshop. Sales from the POS appear in your stats alongside online store sales. You can see total revenue across channels.

How to get started

  1. Log in to your Shoporama admin and navigate to the POS module
  2. Open the POS on the device you want to use in-store (iPad, mobile or PC)
  3. Connect a barcode scanner via USB or Bluetooth if you have one
  4. Connect a printer (regular or thermal printer) if you want to physically print receipts
  5. Test by creating a test order with an existing item

The entire setup takes 15 to 30 minutes. Need help? Write to support@shoporama.dk and we'll help you.

What you need to be aware of

Shoporama's POS is honestly designed for hybrid and online-first stores. It's not a full retail cash register. Here's what you need to know before you get started:

  • No direct card reader integration. The POS doesn't have a built-in card reader driver. You create the order and finalize the payment via a separate device (mobile iZettle, SumUp, Stripe Reader or similar). It works fine for most smaller stores, but requires a small manual process.
  • No cash drawer driver. If you need to open a cash drawer automatically for cash payments, it's not supported out of the box.
  • No offline mode. The POS requires internet connection. If you are selling from a location with poor coverage (market stall at local marketplace), this can be a challenge. Mobile internet via 4G/5G typically works fine.
  • No dedicated POS user management. Each POS user logs in with a regular Shoporama admin account, not a separate checkout user. If you have a lot of staff with limited rights, you'll need to set up separate admin accounts.
  • No classic end-of-day checkout. The POS doesn't have a "close the day" feature like hardware cash registers. Instead, you use Shoporama's regular reporting and statistics to reconcile.
  • Browser printing, not driver printing. Receipts are printed via the browser, not via a POS printer driver. For most printers it works fine, but not all exotic thermal printers have been tested.

Who is it best for?

Shoporama POS is ideal if you have:

  • A market stall where you sell once a week or month
  • A pop-up shop for temporary sales or events
  • A showroom where you primarily sell online but also welcome physical visitors
  • A smaller, moderate-volumestore that primarily sells online
  • Hybrid stores where you want a single inventory and a cross-channel customer database

If you run a busy retail environment with high turnover, many cashiers, hardware integration to payment terminals and end-of-day checkout requirements, a dedicated POS system from Lightspeed, Vend or iZettle would be better. You can still integrate your online store and POS system via third-party integrations, but you won't get the seamless synchronization that Shoporama POS provides.

Frequently asked questions about online store with cash register

How much does Shoporama POS cost?

The POS module is included in your Shoporama plan. You don't pay extra to use it, and there's no per-transaction fee from Shoporama. You only pay for the gateway fees that occur when you take card payments through your separate card reader.

How many devices can I use the POS on simultaneously?

There is no upper limit on the number of devices. You can have the POS open on multiple devices simultaneously (e.g. tablet + mobile) and sell from all in parallel. Inventory is synchronized across.

Can I change the price of an item in the POS?

Yes, you can. You can change the price and discount at line level directly in the basket before you finalize the order. This is valuable for negotiations, total price and special offers.

Can I offer gift cards in the POS?

Yes, you can. If you sell gift cards in your online store, you can also sell them in the POS. Redemption works in the same way as in the webshop.

What happens if I run out of stock in the middle of a sale?

The POS will warn you if you try to sell an item that has just been sold from the online shop. You can choose to continue (oversell) or cancel the line.

Can I make returns in the POS?

Yes, you can. You find the original order, create a credit note and the stock is automatically updated. The money is refunded via the same channel it was originally received.

Do I need a specific barcode scanner?

No, you don't. Most USB and Bluetooth scanners work as keyboard emulation, so they work directly with the POS without any special setup. We recommend a simple USB scanner under $500.

Can I print on a thermal printer?

Yes, if the printer is installed in the operating system and available as a browser printer. Most 80mm USB thermal printers will work. However, we don't have an official test list, so test with your specific model before investing.

How is cash payment handled?

You mark the order as paid with cash in the POS. You handle the money yourself in a cash box outside the system. This gives you flexibility, but requires a little more discipline around reconciliation.

Can I integrate with an accounting system?

Yes, you can. If you have e-conomic or Dinero integrated, all orders (both from the webshop and POS) automatically go into the accounts in the same way.

Ready to combine store and online shop?

A webshop with a Shoporama cash register is the simplest way to have one unified inventory and one customer base across channels. If your primary focus is online but you also sell physically from time to time, this is the best option. If you run a large retail store with complex hardware requirements, a dedicated POS solution is better.
