Inventory value without cost price
What to do if your inventory value is not correct because you missed the cost price when registering stock.
Inventory value is usually calculated based on the cost price of your products. If a product has no cost price, it will affect the inventory value calculation.
What happens without cost price?
Products without a cost price are not counted in the inventory value. This means that the displayed inventory value may be lower than the actual value.
How to add cost price
- Go to Products and click Edit on the product
- Under Prices you will find the Cost price field
- Enter the purchase price excluding VAT
- Click Save
Update cost price on many products
If you have many products without a cost price, you can
- Update cost price on multiple products via bulk editing
- Import cost prices via CSV import
See also Inventory value calculation for a full explanation of the calculation.
Tip to keep in mind
A correct cost price is important to get a true picture of your profit margin and inventory value. Prioritize filling in the cost price of your best-selling products first.
