Webshop with MobilePay

Create a webshop with MobilePay and give customers a faster checkout. How to set up MobilePay and MobilePay Checkout on Shoporama via QuickPay.

Read more about it

More than 4 out of 5 Danes use MobilePay. If your online store doesn't offer MobilePay as a payment method, you're losing sales, especially on mobile. How to get MobilePay on your Shoporama shop, what it costs and what you need to be aware of.

Why a webshop with MobilePay sells better

MobilePay is the most used payment method in Denmark, and the difference in conversion rate between a webshop with MobilePay and one without is significant. Especially on mobile, where the user would otherwise have to find their payment card and enter 16 digits, expiration date and CVC. With MobilePay, the customer approves the payment with fingerprint, face or PIN and is through checkout in under 10 seconds.

Shoporama supports MobilePay as a fully integrated payment method, both the classic MobilePay payment and MobilePay Checkout, which also transfers the customer's address data, so you save the customer from filling in the delivery and invoice address manually.

How MobilePay works in Shoporama

MobilePay is not a standalone payment gateway. It is a payment method that you enable through the gateway that already handles your card payments. On Shoporama, the primary path to MobilePay is QuickPay, which supports both MobilePay Online and MobilePay Checkout.

When a customer selects MobilePay in your online shop:

  1. The customer is directed to the MobilePay flow (app or browser with QR code on desktop)
  2. The customer approves the payment with fingerprint, face or PIN
  3. The amount is deducted immediately or reserved until the order is shipped (your choice)
  4. The order is created in Shoporama with payment status approved and MobilePay transaction ID on the order card

For you as a store owner, the difference to a regular card payment is minimal. The money is settled via your QuickPay agreement, refunds are handled in the same place, and the statistics are shown in the Shoporama admin along with your other payment methods.

What do you get as a store owner?

  • Higher conversion on mobile. MobilePay significantly reduces friction at checkout. The average Danish webshop sees 30 to 60 percent higher mobile conversion when MobilePay is added as a payment method.
  • MobilePay Checkout with address data. If you activate MobilePay Checkout, MobilePay sends the customer's delivery and billing address with the payment. The customer doesn't need to fill in address fields and you have fewer incorrect addresses to correct.
  • One-click refunds. Full and partial refunds are handled from the order card in the Shoporama admin. Money is returned to the customer's MobilePay account.
  • 3D Secure included. Strong customer authentication handled by the MobilePay app. No extra setup, no extra friction.
  • Statistics on payment methods. In the Shoporama admin, you can see how much of your sales come from MobilePay versus cards and filter the order list by payment method.
  • Same deal, all cards plus MobilePay. With one QuickPay agreement you can accept Dankort, Visa, Mastercard, MobilePay, ViaBill and Anyday. You don't need multiple gateway agreements.

How to get started

  1. Create a QuickPay agreement if you don't already have one. Add MobilePay as an option on the agreement directly in the QuickPay manager.
  2. Enter your QuickPay API keys in Shoporama under Settings and payment gateways.
  3. Activate MobilePay as a payment method under the same menu.
  4. (Optional) Enable MobilePay Checkout to get address data with the payment. This is especially valuable if you have a high proportion of mobile customers.

We have detailed guides for setting up QuickPay and a separate guide for MobilePay Checkout. Need help? Write to support@shoporama.dk and we'll help you get started.

Fees and what you need to be aware of

MobilePay charges a separate transaction fee in addition to QuickPay's regular card fees. The fee depends on your MobilePay agreement and is independent of Shoporama. You can see the current rates in your MobilePay agreement or read our overview of fees for MobilePay and Fraudfighter.

Three things to know before you go live:

  • Subscriptions are not supported via MobilePay. If you sell subscriptions, recurring payments must be made by card through QuickPay or PensoPay. The first purchase can be MobilePay, but not subsequent ones. Read more about subscriptions on your webshop.
  • Phone number in checkout. Set phone number as a required field. MobilePay typically returns the phone number, but not in all scenarios and you need it for order confirmation and shipping. Read more about phone number handling.
  • The customer must have the MobilePay app. Yes, even if the customer checks out from a computer. Computer checkout is done via a QR code that the customer scans with their phone. It's a good idea to have several payment methods active in parallel so that customers without MobilePay can also shop.

Frequently asked questions about MobilePay in the online shop

Do I need to use another gateway or can QuickPay alone handle it?

QuickPay alone is enough. QuickPay supports cards, MobilePay, ViaBill, Anyday and a wide range of other payment methods. You don't need multiple gateways to offer MobilePay in your online shop.

Can I offer MobilePay without also offering cards?

Yes, you can. You can choose in the Shoporama admin exactly which payment methods the customer is shown. If you only want MobilePay, simply turn off card payments. However, most shops offer both MobilePay and cards, as some customers still prefer to pay with Dankort or Visa.

Where can I see if a payment has been completed with MobilePay?

On the order card in the Shoporama admin, the payment method is explicitly shown as MobilePay along with the transaction ID from QuickPay. You can also filter the order list by payment method to see only MobilePay orders.

What happens if MobilePay is down?

The customer will get an error message in checkout and can choose another payment method. This is one of the reasons why it makes sense to have multiple methods active in parallel. MobilePay outages typically affect the whole country, not specifically your shop.

Do I get the money directly into my account?

The money is settled via your QuickPay agreement just like card payments. The settlement period is typically 1 to 3 business days depending on your QuickPay agreement. The money from MobilePay does not bypass QuickPay.

Does the customer need the MobilePay app to pay?

Yes, the payer must have MobilePay installed on their phone. Even if the customer is checking out from a computer. When the customer selects MobilePay in a computer checkout, a QR code is scanned with their phone.

Can I use the same MobilePay agreement on multiple shops?

You can, but each Shoporama store must have its own QuickPay agreement. The MobilePay agreement is at the QuickPay level, so if you have one QuickPay agreement, you can use MobilePay in all shops linked to it.

What do I do if a MobilePay payment does not come back to Shoporama?

This happens very rarely, but can happen with network errors. Check the QuickPay manager: if the payment is there but not in Shoporama, you can manually set the order to paid in admin. Write to support@shoporama.dk if you experience this repeatedly.

How long does it take to get MobilePay live on my shop?

If you already have QuickPay set up, you can have MobilePay live in less than 10 minutes. The actual approval of the MobilePay agreement with MobilePay typically takes 1 to 3 business days. Most new Shoporama customers have MobilePay active from day one.

Ready to get started with MobilePay?

An online store with MobilePay is one of the cheapest conversion optimizations you can make. If you have an existing QuickPay agreement, you can have MobilePay activated in less than 10 minutes. If you need help with the setup, write to support@shoporama.dk. Our Danish support typically responds within an hour during office hours.
