Cookie consent and Consent Mode v2
Guide to setting up cookie consent with Google Consent Mode v2 in Shoporama to comply with GDPR and optimize your tracking.
Shoporama has a built-in cookie consent system that complies with GDPR and supports Google Consent Mode v2. The system automatically blocks all non-necessary cookies until the customer gives consent.
Enable Consent Mode
- Go to Settings > Tracking
- Make sure Enable Tracking is turned on
- Check Use Consent Mode
- Save the settings
How it works
When Consent Mode is enabled, a cookie popup appears for new visitors. The popup provides three options:
- Accept all - All cookies are allowed (statistics + marketing)
- Reject all - Only necessary cookies are allowed
- Settings - Customer can select the categories individually
Cookie categories
Cookies are divided into three categories:
- Necessary - Always on. Includes basket, login, language and currency. Cannot be deselected.
- Statistics - Google Analytics, Hotjar and similar analytics tools
- Marketing - Facebook Pixel, Google Ads, LinkedIn, TikTok, Klaviyo and others.
Google Consent Mode v2
Consent Mode v2 is Google's latest standard for consent signaling. When enabled, Shoporama automatically sends the correct consent signals to Google:
- analytics_storage - Controls Google Analytics cookies
- ad_storage - Controls Google Ads cookies
- ad_user_data - Controls user data sharing with Google Ads
- ad_personalization - Controls personalized ads
All signals are set to "denied" by default and automatically updated when the customer gives consent. This ensures correct data in Google Analytics and Google Ads even when customers decline cookies - Google then uses modeling to estimate conversions.
Withdrawal of consent
The customer can change their cookie settings at any time by clicking the cookie icon that is always visible at the bottom of the page. When consent is withdrawn, the relevant cookies are automatically deleted.
Compatible tracking services
The cookie consent system supports automatic categorization of cookies from Google Analytics, Google Ads, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Pinterest, Snapchat, Klaviyo, Hotjar and Microsoft Ads, among others.
