Create a discount code
Complete guide to creating and managing discount codes in Shoporama - percentage discount, fixed amount, free shipping, restrictions and more.
Overview of vouchers
Vouchers are an effective marketing tool that motivates customers to shop. In Shoporama you can create flexible voucher codes with different types of discounts, restrictions and expiration dates.
Create a discount code
- Go to Products → Gift cards in the administration
- Click Create discount code
- Enter a code (or let the system generate automatically)
- Select discount type and settings (see below)
- Click Save
Create discount codes via AI
You can create and manage discount codes directly via an AI assistant, so you don't have to click through admin. The AI can create new codes, update existing ones, delete those you no longer want to use and give you an overview of active codes. You just type in what you want and the AI does it.
If you want a code that only applies to a specific order, it's worth knowing that discount codes cannot technically be tied to an existing order. The customer enters the code at checkout. However, you can achieve exactly the same effect by creating a code that can either only be used once in total or can only be used by one specific email. Then it is effectively "locked" to one order.
Examples of prompts you can copy:
Create a 15% discount code that can only be used once. Call it TAK15.
Create a code of 200 kr. that only works for the customer with email kunde@eksempel.dk, and only once.
Show me all active discount codes and delete expired ones.

Discount types
You can choose between three types of discounts, which can be combined:
- Percentage discount - e.g. 10% discount on the entire order
- Fixed amount - e.g. 50 kr discount
- Free shipping - the shipping costs are removed
You can combine percentage discount or fixed amount with free shipping on the same code.
Restrictions
You can limit discount codes in several ways:
- Number of times - limit the total number of times the code can be used. Leave the field blank for unlimited use
- Once per customer - the customer can only use the code once (based on email address)
- Minimum purchase - the code only works if the order is over a certain amount
- Expiration date - set a date and time when the code expires
- Specific categories - limit the code to products in specific categories
- Specific products - restrict the code to selected products
Advanced settings
- Allow on promotional items - by default, the code cannot be used on items that are already discounted. Enable this option to allow it
- Allow with promotions - choose if the code can be used with active promotions
- Allow with loyalty points - choose if the code can be used with the customer's loyalty points
- Save balance - if the code is for a fixed amount (e.g. 200 kr), the balance can be saved for the next purchase. Useful for gift card-like functionality
- Public - make the code visible on your webshop (for general promotions)
Create multiple codes at once
You can create up to 1,000 unique codes at once:
- Auto-generate - the system creates random codes
- Upload file - upload a text file with one code per line
Codes created simultaneously are grouped in a batch that you can export as CSV.
Share a discount code
You can share a direct link that automatically activates the code in the customer's cart. The link has the format:
https://dinshop.dk/?voucher=DIN-KODE
The link can be found in the edit of the individual discount code.
Activation in checkout
For customers to be able to use discount codes, the feature must be enabled under Settings → Checkout → Activate discount codes. When enabled, a field will appear in the checkout where the customer can enter their code.
Activate discount code via URL
You can activate a discount code automatically by adding it as a URL parameter. When a customer visits your shop via a link with ?voucher=CODE, the discount code is automatically added to their cart.
Example:
https://dinshop.dk/?voucher=SOMMER20
This is useful for campaigns in newsletters, social media or affiliate links where the customer does not have to remember to enter the code themselves.
Discount code statistics
Want to know which discount codes perform best? Under Statistics → Discount codes you can see the number of times each code has been used, total discount amount and revenue, so you can assess whether your campaigns are making you money.
