Consumers' Association as a payment method
How to accept the Spending Credit in your Shoporama online shop. The Spending Credit is activated as a card type in the ePay gateway, not as a separate payment method.
The Danish Consumers' Association is a Danish membership organization that gives members a bonus when they shop at the association's partners. In Shoporama, you can accept payment from Forbrugsforeningen via the gateway ePay (Bambora/Worldline). This is the only way and it is set up as a card type, not as a separate payment method.
Important: You won't find a "Consumers Union" button under Payment in Shoporama. The Spending Association is activated inside your ePay gateway via the "Card type/Payment type" field, which is set to the value 11 (Spending Association).
Prerequisites
- You must have an active agreement with the Consumers' Association
- The Consumers' Association must be connected to your ePay account (contact ePay/Bambora if in doubt)
- You must use ePay as your payment gateway in Shoporama. Read our guide to setting up ePay as a payment gateway.
How to activate the Consumers' Union in Shoporama
- Click on the cog in your Shoporama admin and go to Payment
- Find your existing ePay gateway or create a new one by clicking "Add payment gateway" and select ePay
- Give the gateway a descriptive name, e.g. "Forbrugsforeningen", so it is easy to recognize
- Fill in your ePay details (business ID, keys, etc.) as you would for a regular ePay setup
- In the "Card type" (or "Payment type") field, select the Consumers Association in the dropdown. This corresponds to the value 11.
- Click Save
The Spending Association will now appear as a payment option in your checkout and customers can select it alongside cards and other methods.
Tip: If you want to offer both card payment and Consumers' Union, you can create two ePay gateways in Shoporama. One with the card type set to card (Visa/Dankort/Mastercard) and a separate one with Consumers' Union. This way the customer can choose between them at checkout.
How it works for the customer
- The customer selects the Consumers' Association at checkout
- The customer is sent to ePay's payment window and logs in with their Consumers' Union membership
- The payment is registered via ePay and the order is marked as paid in Shoporama
- The bonus to the customer is settled by the Consumers' Association directly. You as a store will not notice any difference compared to a card payment.
Frequently asked questions
Can I have the Consumers' Union if I use QuickPay or Stripe?
No, you can't. The Consumers' Union is supported in Shoporama exclusively via ePay. If you use a different gateway, you will need to either switch to ePay or set up an additional ePay gateway specifically for the Rewards program.
Where do I find the "Card type" field?
It is located inside the ePay gateway itself in Shoporama. Click on your ePay gateway under Payment and you will find a dropdown called "Card type" or "Payment type". Select Consumers Association from the list.
Do I need to have two ePay agreements to offer both cards and the Consumers' Union?
No, you have one ePay agreement, but you create two gateways in Shoporama that point to the same ePay account. One has the "Card Type" set to Consumers Union and the other has the card type set to card or "all". Both use the same ePay keys.
What does a Consumers' Union payment look like in the accounts?
The payment comes in via ePay's normal settlement, so you treat it as a card payment in your accounting. The bonus to the customer is settled directly by the Consumers' Association and does not affect your accounting. Use ePay reports or Shoporama's order overview to extract the payments if you need to see them separately.
Are there any special fees for the Consumers' Association?
The fees are agreed between you and the Consumers' Association and ePay. Shoporama itself does not charge an additional fee on Consumers' Union payments. Please contact the Federation and ePay for exact rates in your agreement.
Can non-membership customers pay via the Consumers' Union button?
No, they can't. Only members can log in via the Consumers' Union in the ePay payment window. Therefore, make sure you have a regular card payment gateway in parallel so that non-members can also shop with you.
What do I do if the Consumers' Association is not displayed in the checkout?
Check that the gateway is active in Shoporama, that the card type is set to Consumers' Union and that your ePay agreement actually has Consumers' Union enabled. If you have enabled the gateway for certain countries only, remember to also check the delivery country on the test order.
Where can I get help if I get stuck?
Write to us at support@shoporama.dk and we will help you further. If the problem is on the settlement side (missing bonus, missing settlement), contact Forbrugsforeningen and ePay.
