Gift cards and vouchers

In Shoporama, you can work with gift cards and vouchers in two ways: You can sell gift cards as products in your online store, or you can create discount codes manually in the administration. Both methods give your customers a code they can redeem at checkout.

Sell gift cards as products

The easiest way to offer gift cards is to create a product that automatically generates a gift card code when the customer buys it.

1. Create a new product (e.g. "Gift card - 200 DKK")
2. Go to the Credit etc. section in the product editor
3. Check Voucher on and enter the amount (incl. VAT)
4. Enter the number of days the gift card is valid (e.g. 365 days = 1 year)
5. Save the product

When a customer purchases the product, the system automatically generates a unique gift card code. The code is sent to the customer in the order confirmation email under the heading "Your voucher".

Gift cards created this way automatically save the balance so the customer can use the card over multiple purchases.

Create gift cards manually

You can also create gift cards and discount codes manually under Gift cards in the left menu.

1. Go to Gift cards in the menu and click Create new gift card
2. Choose how the codes are created:
   • Single code - enter the code yourself
   • Auto-generate - specify number (up to 1,000 at a time)
   • Upload file - one code per line
3. Set the discount type: Percentage discount or Amount discount
4. Set expiration date, minimum amount and other restrictions
5. Save the gift card

Gift card settings

When you create a gift card manually, you can control a number of settings:

• Expiration date - Select "never" or a specific date
• Number of times the code can be used - Unlimited or a specific number
• Only once per customer - Based on the customer's email address
• Minimum amount - Code only works if the order is over a certain amount
• Includes free shipping - The gift card also provides free shipping
• Allow on discounted items - Whether the code also applies to promotional products
• Can be combined with promotions - Whether the code can be used with an active promotion
• Can be combined with loyalty points - Whether the code can be used with points
• Save balance - If the customer doesn't spend the full amount, the rest is saved for the next purchase

Limit to specific products or categories

You can choose to limit a gift card to only apply to certain categories or products. If you choose no restriction, the code will apply to all products in your shop.

How the customer redeems a gift card

At checkout, the customer sees a field where they can enter their gift card code. The system automatically validates that the code is valid, has not expired and that any conditions are met. The discount is deducted from the order total.

A customer can only use one gift card per order.

Overview of your gift cards

Under Gift cards in the menu, you can see an overview of all created codes with information about number of times used, remaining usage, expiration date, minimum amount and discount. You can also export the list as a CSV file.
