Webshop with GLS

Create a webshop with GLS shipping and print parcel labels in one click. Parcel selector, tracking, returns and batch printing from Shoporama.

Read more about it

GLS is one of Denmark's most used shipping companies and Shoporama has a full direct integration with GLS. You can select GLS parcel shop in checkout, print parcel labels with one click and send automatic tracking to the customer. Here's how to get started.

GLS is built directly into Shoporama

GLS is one of the three major shipping operators in the Danish market, and a webshop with GLS is the most classic setup for Danish webshops. Shoporama has a direct GLS integration that lets you handle the entire shipping flow from the order overview in the admin: parcel shop selector in checkout, automatic label printing, batch printing, tracking and returns.

You don't need a third-party platform between Shoporama and GLS if you only use GLS. If you ship via multiple carriers, a unified platform like Shipmondo can be an alternative.

How the GLS integration works in Shoporama

The integration runs via GLS' Uniconnect API. When a customer places an order with GLS shipping:

  1. The customer selects the delivery method (home delivery or parcel shop)
  2. If parcel shop, the customer selects the nearest GLS shop directly in checkout
  3. The order is created in Shoporama with delivery method and parcel shop info
  4. Go to the order list in the Shoporama admin and select one or more orders
  5. Click Print labels and package labels are automatically generated via GLS API
  6. Tracking number is saved on the order and the customer is notified by email

The entire flow runs in one single view. You don't need to log into multiple systems to send a parcel.

What do you get as a store owner?

  • Parcel shop selector in checkout. The customer selects the nearest GLS parcel shop directly in the checkout flow based on postal code. This reduces abandoned cart because the customer doesn't have to check a separate card.
  • Print labels with one click. Select one or more orders from the order list and print parcel labels together. Saves you minutes per package, especially on busy days.
  • Home delivery, parcel shop and flex delivery. All three delivery types are supported. You can offer all of them or just selected ones, depending on your shop.
  • Tracking directly to the customer. Tracking number is automatically saved on the order and included in the shipping email. The customer can click directly to GLS tracking.
  • Return labels. Generate return labels to either include in the package or send to the customer separately. Save time and keep the return flow professional.
  • Multi-package. If an order requires multiple packages, you can print multiple labels with separate tracking numbers on the same order.

How to get started

  1. Set up a GLS agreement if you don't have one. GLS typically approves in 1 to 5 business days.
  2. Get your GLS API credentials (username, password, customer ID, contact ID) from GLS.
  3. Enter the credentials in the Shoporama admin under Settings and shipping.
  4. Set up GLS as the delivery method: choose whether you want to offer parcel shop, home delivery, flex delivery or everything.
  5. Test by creating a test order and print a label. Then you know it all works.

We have a detailed guide to setting up GLS integration and a separate article on GLS Uniconnect types. If you run into problems, we also have a guide to GLS transfer errors. Need help? Write to support@shoporama.dk.

What you need to be aware of

The GLS integration is stable and well-tested, but there are a few things to be aware of:

  • The parcel shop API has a time window. If the GLS parcel shop server is slow, posts may fall back to a cached list. This is rare, but does happen. At worst, the customer will see a slightly older list.
  • Maximum weight per package. You can set a limit for how heavy packages can be sent via GLS parcel shop. Heavy packages (over 20 kg) may require home delivery or special handling.
  • Comments on orders. If you have complex delivery instructions per order, read our article about comments on GLS orders to ensure they are transferred correctly.

Frequently asked questions about GLS in the webshop

Should I choose between GLS direct or Shipmondo?

If you only use GLS, the direct integration is typically the easiest and cheapest. If you ship with multiple carriers (GLS, PostNord, DAO, etc.), a unified platform like Shipmondo can make your life easier. Read more about webshop with Shipmondo.

What happens if the customer does not pick up the parcel in the parcel shop?

GLS will store the package for 7 days and then return it to the sender. You can check the status of the parcel in the Shoporama admin and contact the customer if the parcel is delayed.

Can I ship internationally with GLS?

Yes, you can. GLS covers all of Europe and you can set up international shipping in Shoporama. Please note that fees and delivery times vary significantly depending on destination.

Can I print labels without having a label printer?

Yes, you can. Labels are generated as PDFs and can be printed on regular A4 paper that is then cut to size. However, a label printer (4x6 inches) is much faster if you send many parcels daily.

What do I do if label printing fails?

We have a specific article on the GLS error No free function server, which is the most common error. It is typically resolved by waiting a short time and trying again. If the error persists, please write to support@shoporama.dk.

Do I get a notification when the customer picks up the package?

GLS updates the tracking status, so you can see in Shoporama if the package is picked up, en route or delivered. You can also set up automatic notifications so that you get an email when certain status changes.

Can I manually change the shipping on an order?

Yes, you can. If a customer changes their mind and wants home delivery instead of parcel shop (or vice versa), you can edit the order and generate a new label.

How much does GLS shipping cost?

The price is agreed directly between you and GLS. It depends on volume, weight and whether you have a larger agreement. Shoporama does not affect the price.
