Upselling after purchase

Increase your average order value with product suggestions on the checkout page. Customers can add items with a single click, and a new order is created directly for payment without having to re-enter any information. Built into Shoporama with no additional app or monthly fee.

The best time to upsell is right after the customer has said yes. Their desire to buy is at its peak, the payment has been processed, and their card is still in hand. With Post-Purchase Upselling, you display selected product suggestions on the receipt page, and the customer can add one or more of them with a single click.

A new order is automatically created with the same address, shipping, and payment method as the purchase the customer just completed. This means the customer proceeds directly to checkout without having to re-enter their address or select shipping again. This is the easiest way to increase your average order value, because the customer has already shown a willingness to buy and doesn’t have to go through the entire ordering process again.

Here’s how it works

Once the customer has completed their purchase and lands on the receipt page, they’re presented with a small selection of product suggestions. Shoporama takes care of the rest:

  • The customer adds one or more suggested products with a single click.
  • A new order is created with the same address, shipping, and payment method as the purchase just completed.
  • The customer is taken directly to checkout, with no need to re-enter any information.
  • If a product has variants, the customer selects the size or color from a small menu before adding it to the cart.

You can offer free shipping on the upsell order itself. We recommend this because it removes the last bit of hesitation and makes it an obvious choice for the customer to go ahead with the purchase, since the items will be shipped together anyway.

You decide what to suggest

You choose in the admin panel which products to suggest on the checkout page. This gives you full control over what the customer sees, and you can tailor the suggestions to your specific store. Choose from:

  • Frequently bought together with
  • Related products
  • Best Sellers
  • Products with the highest contribution margin
  • Products from specific categories or landing pages
  • Manually selected products

If you want to protect your revenue, you can, for example, prioritize products with the highest contribution margin. If you want to increase the quantity in the cart, “often bought together with” is a strong choice. Note that bundle offers are not suggested as upsells.

Create a sense of urgency

In the built-in themes Montana, Delaware, and DelawareDK, you can add a countdown to your upsell offer. The countdown creates a sense that the offer is only valid right now, and it gives the customer a gentle nudge to make a decision while their motivation is at its peak. It’s a simple way to get more people to take the plunge.
