SEO in Shoporama
Complete guide to the SEO features in Shoporama - from meta tags and sitemap to Google Shopping and AI Assistant.
Shoporama has a comprehensive SEO system to help you optimize your online store for search engines like Google. This article will go through all the SEO features available in your shop.
Meta-tags on products, categories and pages
On all products, categories, static pages, blog posts and landing pages, you can fill in the following SEO fields:
- Meta title - The title that appears in search results. Recommended length: 50-70 characters.
- Meta description - The description below the title in the search results. Recommended length: under 160 characters. Must be plain text without HTML.
- URL (rewrite URL) - Your own SEO-friendly URL slug. Automatically generated from the name, but can be customized.
- Noindex - Check the box to prevent search engines from indexing the page.
- Canonical URL - Points to the "real" version of a page if you have duplicate content.
Google preview
When you edit a product or category, Shoporama displays a live Google preview so you can see exactly how your content will appear in search results - both on desktop and mobile.
Dynamic variables in meta fields
In the meta title and meta description of products and categories, you can use these shortcodes, which are automatically replaced with the current values:
- [PRICE] - Product price
- [PRICE_EX_VAT] - Price without VAT
- [NAME] - Product/category name
- [STOCK] - Stock on hand
- [SUPPLIER] - Supplier
- [BRAND] - Brand/brand
- [YEAR] - Current year
- [FREESHIPPING] - Free shipping amount
Example: A meta title like Buy [NAME] for only [PRICE] - Free shipping over [FREESHIPPING] will automatically be filled with the correct values for each product.
XML Sitemap
Shoporama automatically generates an XML sitemap at /sitemap.xml. The sitemap contains all your online products, categories, pages, blog posts and landing pages and is continuously updated.
- Automatic prioritization: Front page has the highest priority (1.0), featured products (0.9), categories (0.8), products (0.7) and blog posts (0.6).
- Change frequency: Automatically calculated based on when the content was last modified.
- Respects noindex: Pages marked with noindex are automatically omitted from the sitemap.
- Image sitemap: Separate /image-sitemap.xml with all product images.
Robots.txt
You can customize your online store's robots.txt in the Online Store Settings. Shoporama automatically blocks checkout pages (cart, payment, address, etc.) from indexing and you can add your own rules.
Open Graph and social media
For Facebook, LinkedIn and other social platforms, you can put Open Graph tags on your products, categories and pages:
- OG title - Alternative title for sharing on social media
- AND description - Alternative description for social sharing cards
- OG image - Choose which image to use when sharing
Google Shopping category
You can assign Google Shopping categories to your products and categories. Shoporama has an interactive search function where you can easily find the right Google category. The category is used in your Google Shopping feed, among other things.
Morningscore integration
Shoporama has an integration with Morningscore that gives you SEO analysis directly in your admin. Here you can view SEO scores, keyword analysis and recommendations for optimizing your products, categories and pages.
Internal search optimization
Each product has a keyword field where you can add synonyms and alternative keywords. These words are not visible on the product page, but help customers find the product via the internal search function in your shop.
AI assistant for SEO texts
Shoporama's AI assistant can help you write meta titles, meta descriptions and product texts. The AI feature is available directly in the edit form on products, categories and pages.
URL management and redirects
All products, categories and pages have a customizable URL. If you change a URL, Shoporama automatically saves the old URL and creates a 301 redirect so you don't lose Google rankings. Read more in the article The big guide to redirects.
